The new Centre will concentrate on three main areas:

  • Advisory and Enablement: Providing digital strategy and advisory services for businesses and public agencies, leveraging Univers’ expertise in Net Zero and AI technologies.
  • R&D and Innovation: Setting up Open Labs, Testbeds, and Living Labs to drive research and develop new intellectual property tailored to regional needs.
  • Commercial Deployment: Launching real-world Net Zero projects across sectors such as energy and hospitality, using AI to improve efficiency and reduce emissions.

Arun Poojari, Global Vice President at Univers, stated, “We are bringing AI for Energy to the forefront — using intelligent systems to transition to a low-carbon economy and enable emerging regions like Sarawak to leapfrog toward a net zero future”.

Ir. Ts. Sudarnoto Osman, CEO of SDEC, emphasized the state’s commitment to digital transformation, saying, “Sarawak is not dipping its toes into AI. We are using it right now. This collaboration is a significant step towards shaping a future where digital solutions are embedded in the way we design and sustain our built environment”.

The partnership aligns with the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030, which outlines the state’s ambition to build a digitally driven and environmentally sustainable economy. The Centre is also expected to support skills development and knowledge-sharing programs to nurture local talent.
