Maybank has secured multiple accolades at the Global Finance Sustainable Finance Awards. Among the awards, Maybank was named the Best Bank for Sustainable Financing in Emerging Markets (Global & Asia Pacific), Best Bank for Sustainability Transparency (Asia Pacific), Best Bank for Sustainable Finance (Malaysia), and Best Bank for Sustainable Finance (Indonesia). These honors reflect the bank’s efforts to address climate change and promote sustainable development across the ASEAN region, it said in a press statement.
In addition to these sustainability-focused awards, Maybank was also recognized as the Best Foreign Exchange Bank in Malaysia. These achievements align with the bank’s M25+ strategy, which emphasizes customer-centricity, digital transformation, and sustainability leadership.
Sustainability Milestones
Throughout 2024, Maybank says that it mobilised over RM105 billion in sustainable financing, surpassing its initial target of RM80 billion. This financing supported low-carbon transition projects, green energy initiatives, and sustainability infrastructure across ASEAN. Notable projects identified included Johor Plantations Group Berhad’s Sustainability-Linked Sukuk—the first of its kind in the plantation sector—and TNB’s Transition Finance Framework.
Maybank also launched HERpower, a program aimed at empowering women-led SMEs across Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines. The initiative underscores Maybank’s commitment to advancing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards while fostering inclusivity.
Transparency in Sustainability Reporting
Maybank was commended for its enhanced sustainability disclosures through the publication of its first Environmental Report (ER) and Social Impact Report (SIR) in 2024. These reports marked a first for any Malaysian bank – earning it the Best Bank for Sustainability Transparency award. The SIR has also been shortlisted for the edie Awards 2025 for Sustainability Reporting and Communications.
The recognition of Maybank Indonesia further highlights the bank’s regional efforts, particularly its social financing initiatives aimed at empowering disadvantaged women and supporting MSME growth.
Maybank says that these accolades reinforces its role as a leading financial institution driving sustainable outcomes within ASEAN. The bank continues to align its initiatives with regional sustainability goals while contributing to economic and societal well-being.
