BYD Sealion 7 Set to Make Malaysian Debut on November 14

BYD Malaysia is gearing up to introduce its latest electric vehicle (EV) to the Malaysian market. The BYD Sealion 7, a fully electric coupe SUV, is scheduled for launch on November 14, 2024, marking another milestone in the company’s expansion in the country.

Vehicle Overview

The Sealion 7 is positioned as a direct competitor to popular electric SUVs like the Tesla Model Y and XPeng G6. It’s important to note that BYD offers two different models under the Sealion name:

  1. Sealion 6: A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUV
  2. Sealion 7: A fully electric (BEV) coupe SUV

The upcoming launch in Malaysia specifically refers to the all-electric Sealion 7 model.

Performance and Specifications

While full details are yet to be revealed, BYD has confirmed some key specifications for the Malaysian market:

  • Maximum power output: 390 kW (approximately 523 hp)
  • Acceleration: 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds
  • Range: 542 km (NEDC rating)

These specifications suggest that Malaysia will receive the high-performance, dual-motor AWD variant of the Sealion 7.

Pricing and Availability

BYD Malaysia has already opened the order books for the Sealion 7. Interested buyers can place a booking on the official BYD website with a refundable fee of RM1,000, which will be counted towards the vehicle’s deposit.

While official pricing for Malaysia has not been announced, industry speculation suggests that the Sealion 7 could be priced below RM200,000, especially if multiple variants are introduced.

Post-Launch Events

Following the November 14 launch, BYD has planned a showcase event at The Exchange 106 in Kuala Lumpur from November 15 to 17. This event will offer potential customers the opportunity to experience the Sealion 7 firsthand through test drives.
